All at Wrexham AFC would like to wish goalkeeping coach Lee Butler the very best for the future, after he announced his retirement.
Butler joined the Club from Sunderland AFC last summer, reuniting with Phil Parkinson and Steve Parkin having previously worked with the two at Bradford City, Bolton Wanderers and on Wearside.
A popular figure behind the scenes at the Racecourse Ground, Butler worked with goalkeepers Rob Lainton, Christian Dibble, Dawid Szczepaniak and Lee Camp as the former two kept 20 clean sheets between them in the 2021/22 season.
Butler, 56, previously made nearly 500 league appearances in a career that included stints with Aston Villa, Barnsley, Wigan Athletic and Halifax Town before going into coaching.
As a coach, now-England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was among Butler’s former tutees as he became an integral part of manager Parkinson’s coaching set-ups over nine years of working together.
Speaking on his time at Wrexham, he said: “The supporters are some of the best I’ve known across my 40 years in football and I really enjoyed my time working at the Club.
“Me and the keepers had a really good group; Rob is one of the best keepers in the league but suffered a series of unfortunate injuries.
“Dibbs has done great; he’s probably been seen as the number two for most of his Wrexham career, but he performed well when he came into the side.
“It wasn’t just the keepers, it was the whole squad; they’re a fantastic bunch of lads and I wish them all the best for next season.”
