After penning a new deal with the Club, Luke Young admitted that he cannot wait to get going ahead of the 2022/23 Vanarama National League Season.
The midfielder signed his new contract until the end of the 2023/24 campaign last week, extending his stay at the Racecourse for an extra two years.
With fixture release day (Wednesday July 6) now just around the corner, Young explained he’s raring to go once again.
He said: “When you’re getting crowds between 8,000-10,000 fans every home game, it’s massive.
“It’s what makes you want to pull the shirt on and run through brick walls for everybody.
“It’s what you live for as a player, not only in front of a big crowd but also in front of your friends and family as well.
“Everybody is chomping at the bit to get going and has the fire in their belly to go one step further next season.”
After first joining the Club in the summer of 2018, Young went on to win back-to-back Player of the Season awards in 2019/20 and 2020/21.
Looking ahead to the new season, the skipper believes that the Club is only going to progress, both on and off the pitch.
He added: “When you look at the bigger picture of where the Club has come, it’s only going up.
“It’s definitely going places and there’s infrastructure off the pitch and on it which is only going to take the Club forward.
“I want to be a part of that and the success of where the Club is going to go.”
Pre-season plans are now well under way, with games scheduled against Nantwich Town and Macclesfield FC in July, as well as the trip to Spain.
Last season saw the Club draw in record attendances in the National League, and Young paid tribute to the supporters ahead of the new season.
He said: “Ever since I stepped through the door at the Club, the fans have been so welcoming to me personally.
“Everyone knows what they get from me - I get my head down and work hard.
“I will always give 100% and I’ll always work hard, and for the last four years I believe that I’ve done that. I’ve built up a great relationship with the fans.”
