Wrexham AFC are pleased to confirm the signing of young defender Scott Butler, who returns to the Racecourse Ground having previously played for the Club’s youth team.

Wrexham-born Butler, who can play at full-back and centre-back, moved south to join Swansea in 2019 and represented them at Under-18s and Under-23 level before leaving in the summer.

The 19-year-old has been on trial with Wrexham and played three matches for the reserves, including captaining the team against Huddersfield last time out.

And Butler has now penned a permanent deal until the end of the season, with the option of a further year, to complete his return to North Wales.

He said: “I’m obviously delighted to have got the deal done. There’s not real any better place for me to be coming back.

“A lot has changed here obviously, but there are still familiar faces that have helped me settle.

“Having the reserves team is a really, really good thing for the Club. At this age, it allows me to continue to get gametime and keep progressing, while also being in the eye of the first team.

“I now just want to take it each game as it comes and show what I can do – not look too far ahead. If I keep developing, I’m sure that will get me to where I want to be.”

Manager Phil Parkinson added: “Scott has played a couple of games in our reserve team and has done well. He’s a local lad and a good young player.

“We’re trying to strengthen that group – one, to make us even more competitive in that league; but also to do it with players that can progress with the Club, and Scott fits the bill.”
