Wrexham AFC are pleased to welcome John Widdowson as the Club’s new Head of Community.
John joins in the newly-created role, to lead the Club and the Wrexham AFC Community Trust in their community objectives, having been chosen from a strong list of candidates for the job.
John’s appointment was finalised by trustees of the Wrexham AFC Community Trust, and he will start in his new role at the Football Club next month.
He previously worked full-time in the Burton Albion Community Trust, as Community Manager, and has also worked as a Community Sports Coach and School Sports Partnership Officer with South Derbyshire District Council.
On starting his new role, John said: “It’s a really exciting opportunity. Wrexham is a Club with a big history of being embedded in the community. The power of sport and the brand of this Football Club can do so much for its community as we’ve seen already.
“I’m really excited to get started, and to tackle some of the community’s toughest issues, and hopefully not just see the Club growing its football side but benefitting the community alongside it.”
Wrexham AFC Community Trust Trustee and Wrexham AFC Executive Director, Humphrey Ker, said: “Rob and Ryan’s commitment to making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham is engrained in their mission statement.
“This appointment is important in ensuring that we are in the best position possible to continue and to grow the work of the Wrexham AFC Community Trust, to ensure the Football Club is an asset for the whole community.”
Gavin Jones, Chair of the Trustees of the Wrexham AFC Community Trust, said: “John was a strong candidate with a good background in working in the community.
“He’s coming in to support the setup of, and deliver and oversee, the community strategy for the Club, to be delivered by the Trust.”
