Australian-born keeper added to squad on short-term contract

Young goalkeeper Kai Calderbank-Park has signed a short-term contract to provide goalkeeping cover until January.

Calderbank-Park, 21, who has represented Australia Under-23s, has been on trial with the Club and has now signed a short-term contract.

The former Burnley academy graduate – who has also played for Curzon Ashton, Bury AFC, Hyde United and Connah’s Quay Nomads – will train with goalkeepers Mark Howard and Rory Watson and is available to play immediately.

On signing, he said: “I’m very excited to join the Club here. It’s a massive Club and I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s been good training with the squad. Aidan Davison sets standards high, and it’s been good so far – hopefully I get a good connection with the keepers here and keep pushing forwards.”

Manager Phil Parkinson added: “Kai has been training with us a few weeks. Everyone knows we’ve had difficulties in the goalkeeping department with the injuries to Rob and Dibbs.

“Rob has been back out on the grass, and it’s great to have his personality out there, but with Kai – we’ve been looking for an extra keeper because if one of the keepers go down before Rob and Dibbs return, we will have nobody to go on the bench.

“Dawid Szczepaniak fulfilled that role last year, and we’re looking for Kai – who’s a good young keeper – to progress with us over the next few months. We can then assess the goalkeeping situation again when we get to January.”
