A look back on the highlights of the goalkeeper's second spell at Wrexham AFC

21 August 2023

Goalkeeper Ben Foster today announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to his second spell at Wrexham AFC.

After kick-starting his football career in North Wales with a loan spell in 2005, which included a starring role in the LDV Vans Trophy Final win at the Millennium Stadium against Southend United, Foster returned to Wrexham in March 2023.

In a whirlwind spell, the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet on his 'second debut' against York City, in front of co-chairman Ryan Reynolds.

Ultimately playing all eight games in the title run-in, 'Fozzy' then etched his name into Wrexham folklore with a penalty save from Cedwyn Scott in stoppage time as Wrexham beat title rivals Notts County to take a step closer to promotion.

He has played a further four games this season, saving another penalty in the away draw with AFC Wimbledon, before today announcing his decision to step away from playing.
