SIGNED | Goalkeepers extend Wrexham stay

Rory Watson and Kai Calderbank-Park commit to end of 2022/23 season

19 January 2023

Wrexham AFC are pleased to announce goalkeepers Rory Watson and Kai Calderbank-Park have signed contract extensions to the end of the 2022/23 season.

Watson signed on a free transfer on the eve of the season to provide goalkeeping cover, having previously played for Scunthorpe United – for whom he was named Player of the Season last time out.

Australian Under-23 international Calderbank-Park then joined after a successful trial in September.

Both signed on short-term deals, but have now extended their contracts until the end of the season.

Manager Phil Parkinson added: “We’re pleased that both Rory and Kai have extended their deals until the end of the season.

“The intention is to loan Kai out and get him some first-team experience. Both have trained really well, and been excellent as part of the squad.”

On signing his new contract, Watson said: “I feel good. Obviously I’ve not made the impact I’d have hoped when I first signed but I’m delighted to stay.

“I want to use my experience to push the boys on. We’ve got 22 games left to get promoted and I want to be here to witness that.

“It’s good to be part of the goalkeeping group. Mark and Rob are great characters, and great goalkeepers. I’m here to make sure they’re on their toes, to keep pushing them and you never know what will happen between now and the end of the season.”

Calderbank-Park said: “I’m feeling good. I’m buzzing to be staying on, and fingers crossed hopefully things go well and I keep progressing.

“I said when I signed I didn’t realise until I was here just how big a Club it was, how much the fans meant to the Club and how big of a fanbase it was. Being here for a couple of months now and seeing that, it’s unbelievable.

“We’ve got a good goalkeeping group here, Aidan’s a great coach and we all get on really well – I’m enjoying it a lot.”
