- Former youth team ace signs pro terms

6 June 2023

Wrexham AFC are pleased to confirm midfielder Owen Cushion has signed his first professional contract with the Football Club.

Cushion, 18, played a key role in the youth team’s National League Youth Alliance Division H success last season, as well as helping them to the FAW Youth Cup semi-finals.

In addition, he appeared for the first team in pre-season, and was part of the match-day squad for the FA Trophy Fourth Round fixture at Altrincham earlier this year.

Now, the Liverpudlian central midfielder has signed an initial one-year professional contract, with the option for a further season.

On signing the contract, he said: “It’s unbelievable to sign, I’ve been with the club for 11 years and to now get my first professional deal is so surreal.

I’m really looking forward to working with Phil Parkinson, he’s a manager with great experience and I can’t wait to get started in pre-season.”

Cushion made 26 youth team appearances last season, scoring seven times from central midfield. He also made eight appearances for the reserve team.

And on handing him his first professional deal, manager Phil Parkinson said: “It’s great for Owen to sign his first professional contract with the club.

He progressed well in the Youth and Reserve teams and we’re looking forward to working with him in the coming season.”
