The Football Club are pleased to announce Wrexham AFC Women have been granted a Tier 1 license for the 2023/24 season, following our successful application to the FAW.
The license ensures Wrexham will be eligible to play in the Genero Adran Premier next season, should the team be successful in the play-off match against Briton Ferry Llansawel on Sunday April 16.
As previously announced, we applied for a Tier 1 license in the hope of earning promotion, and realising our ambition of ensuring the team can turn semi-professional for next season.
After sealing the Genero Adran North title, with a perfect record of 12 league wins from 12 games, the successful license application now ensures that remains a possibility.
On the announcement, CEO Fleur Robinson said: “I would like to thank and congratulate our Head of Women’s Football, Gemma Owen, and colleagues their hard work in ensuring we were granted a Tier 1 license.
“We know we still have one very big game to go in our ambition to be a Genero Adran Premier team, and we are all eagerly looking forward to next month’s play-off match against Briton Ferry Llansawel.
“But being granted a Tier 1 license is further proof of our well-publicised ambitions for our women’s football section.
“This follows the huge success of our record-breaking crowd at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday, and the team sealing a perfect record on the pitch with their 12th win in 12 games.
“The day provided a fantastic showcase for the women’s game and demonstrated not only the potential here but also our ambitions to develop girls’ and women’s football for the benefit of Wrexham.
“I would like to wish Steve Dale and all the girls the very best of luck for the play-off match on Sunday April 16.”
The match against Briton Ferry Llansawel, the Genero Adran South champions, will take place at Newtown. Full ticket and travel information for the game will be confirmed in due course.
