CHAMPIONS | Wrexham AFC Youth win title

Young Red Dragons make it four title from four across the Club

3 May 2023

Wrexham AFC Youth have been crowned National League Youth Alliance Division H champions, after second-placed Bradford (Park Avenue) lost to FC Halifax Town today.

Wrexham have topped the table for much of the season but faced a nervous wait to be crowned champions after finishing their season earlier than second-placed Bradford PA.

Bradford’s defeat to Halifax gives the young Red Dragons an unassailable four-point lead, however, after a campaign in which they scored 79 goals in 22 matches.

It means Wrexham have won four league titles out of four in 2022/23 across the men’s and women’s senior first teams and Under-19s teams.

Dan Nolan’s side won 16 of their 22 league games, finishing the campaign with 50 points, in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the FAW Youth Cup.

Jacob Milner scored 19 goals to top the league’s goalscoring charts, with team-mates Mikey Hayman (14), Harry Ashfield (11) also reaching double figures.

On the title triumph, Head of Youth Dan Nolan – who also saw his class of 2019/20 seal the same title, when Max Cleworth and Jake Bickerstaff were among the key players – said: “It’s really pleasing to win the division. It’s a reflection of the group’s performances over the whole league campaign.

“It’s been a big season for the whole Club, and we’re delighted to have added the youth team’s league win to the men’s, women’s, and women’s under-19s’ achievements. To have all four teams win their respective league competitions is fantastic.”
