Donate unwanted football boots to help those in need

5 May 2023

Wrexham AFC Community Trust are calling for supporters to donate unwanted football boots to help those in need.

For many families in Wrexham and across North Wales the financial burden of buying boots or trainers for children is often a barrier to them starting or taking part in sporting activity.

To combat this Wrexham AFC Community Trust (WAFCCT) are appealing to fans and the wider community to help us support local families to get kids moving and playing sport.

WAFCCT are looking for donations of unwanted boots in all sizes (children and adults) in new or used condition. This can include:

  • Football boots
  • Astroturf trainers

You can donate boots at the Wrexham Miners Rescue Centre, 3 Maesgwyn Rd, LL11 2AP. Donations are welcomed from May 5 until May 31, and the centre is open from 9am for donations.

Any footwear that is donated will be distributed to children and young people in the local community through WAFCCT and local partners.

The appeal has been backed by Wrexham AFC men’s and women’s players with boots already donated from the first teams, and club staff.

Head of Community, John Widdowson said: “We are extremely grateful to the Club, players and staff for their support. Right now families are making difficult choices and football boots and trainers are not a priority.”

“This appeal we hope will help families to keep children active; if we can help make difficult choices easier, we know this will make a huge difference to not only children but parents too.”

George Powell, from the Wrexham Miners Rescue Centre said: “This is a wonderful appeal and were really pleased to be supporting Wrexham AFC Community Trust to help families and children.

“Family has always been important to the Wrexham Miners Rescue Centre; this appeal is a great way for community-focused organisations to make a positive difference in Wrexham.”

As the community arm of the Football Club, the Trust delivers a number of sessions across the week – all aimed at using the power of sport to make a positive difference across our local community.

Wrexham AFC Community Trust would like to thank the Wrexham Miners Rescue Centre for their support with our football boot appeal campaign.
