NATIONAL LEAGUE AWARDS | Double honours for Wrexham

Elliot Lee named Player of the Month; DJ Povey wins Volunteer of the Month

Our final month in the Vanarama National League ended with further celebrations, with Elliot Lee and club volunteer DJ Povey both being recognised in the monthly awards.

Lee was named Vanarama National League Player of the Month for April, after a month in which he bagged five goals in seven games as we sealed the title and promotion back to the EFL.

DJ was honoured, meanwhile, for his voluntary work with our disabled supporters on matchdays, where he assists supporters on the accessible viewing platform.

Lee – who was also named in the league’s Team of the Season – capped a fine debut season at the Racecourse Ground with some crucial performances in the title run-in.

He started the month with a goal and an assist in the 5-1 home win against Oldham Athletic, before scoring at FC Halifax Town on Good Friday.

Lee then hit what proved to be the winning goal in the huge title showdown with Notts County, and then scored one and assisted another as Wrexham beat Boreham Wood to seal the title.

Having scored the first goal of the season, Lee then had the honour of netting the last goal of Wrexham’s 15-year stay in the National League on the final day at Torquay too.

Llongyfarchiadau/congratulations to Elliot on the award!

DJ Povey, meanwhile, is the latest Wrexham volunteer to be honoured by the National League – following the likes of DLO Kerry Evans and Dragon Chat founder Steve Lloyd in being recognised for their contributions off the pitch.

DJ has worked alongside Kerry for several years now, helping to look after supporters using the wheelchair-user accessible viewing platforms on match days.

Kerry says of DJ: “All our wheelchair users will know DJ as he makes it his business to go and chat to all of them along the front row and check that everyone is welcomed as well as caring for the fans on the wheelchair viewing platforms.

“DJ really is a very valued member of the match day team and someone who I am proud to work alongside. Thank you DJ, you really do go the extra mile and it really is appreciated.”

Llongyfarchiadau, DJ, a diolch yn fawr iawn i ti!
