TST | Wrexham Red Dragons Group and Schedule Revealed for $1M Winner-take-all Tournament

Wrexham Red Dragons Headline TST’s Group E; First Game June 1

4 May 2023

The Soccer Tournament, the $1 million, winner-take-all, 7v7 world championship, today announced the group pairing and schedule for Wrexham Red Dragons as a part of its official 32-team field reveal for the inaugural event in Cary, NC June 1-4.

Like the World Cup, TST’s 32-team field is split into eight groups of four teams. Wrexham Red Dragons will headline Group E, which also features Como 1907, US Women, and Say Word FC.

All teams will play three group stage games, spanning the course of Thursday, June 1, and Friday, June 2. The top two teams from each group (16 total) will advance to the knockout stage, which will commence the evening of June 2. Round of Eight and Round of Four games will both be played on Saturday, June 3.

TST’s $1 million, winner-take-all championship game will be Sunday, June 4.

Wrexham Red Dragons’ first group stage game is scheduled against Como 1907 on June 1 at 6:30 pm BST. Their second game will be against US Women on June 1 at 1:30 am BST. Wrexham’s final group stage game against Say Word FC will be on June 2 at 5 pm BST.

Historic Italian Serie B club Como 1907, whose new ownership group includes legends of the game Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas, will look to bring TST’s $1M prize home to Italy. Fabregas, who currently plays for Como’s first team, will join their TST roster as a player-coach.

US Women, led by former US Women’s Nation team star Heather O’Reilly, reunites many former USWNT stars for TST. The roster includes names like O’Reily, Lori Lindsey, Kristine Lilly, and Cat Whitehill, but their coaching staff may be even more impressive. Mia Hamm, Michelle Akers, and Heather Mitts are among the staff looking to lead US Women to TST glory.

One of the younger teams in the field, Say Word FC will pay homage to North Carolina and all the Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the country.

All TST games will be available to watch live during the course of the event, with viewing information to be revealed in the coming weeks. Current game times are subject to change.

In addition to Wrexham, TST’s 32-team field also includes clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Wolverhampton, West Ham, Serie B’s Como 1907, Israeli Premier League’s Hapoel Tel Aviv, and MLS’s Charlotte FC.

Participants in this year’s tournament include American soccer stars Clint Dempsey (Team Dempsey), Landon Donovan (Sneaky Fox FC), former NFL wide receiver Chad OchoCinco Johnson (Nati SC), and popular social media influencer Noah Beck (Borussia Dortmund), among many others.
