James McClean and Jacob Mendy are set to return to the Club after representing the Red Dragons on the world stage during the international break.

It was the first time this season we have had two international call-ups in the same break, with milestones made in the process.

For McClean, it marked his farewell from the world stage, as he made his 103rd and final cap for the Republic of Ireland.

It was a storied career at the very highest level, which spanned over a decade and included two European Championship appearances.

He was added to Stephen Kenny’s squad for their final qualifier against The Netherlands, before bowing out against New Zealand.

The game finished 1-1, with an emotional send-off for McClean in the 66th minute, as he received a standing ovation after being substituted.

On the other side of the world, Mendy made his debut for The Gambia as they opened their 2026 World Cup Qualifying campaign.

He was an unused substitute in their first fixture against Burundi in Tanzania but received the call to start in the second fixture against Ivory Coast.

The Scorpions were edged out by The Elephants in a 0-2 defeat which was also at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium

Not only was it a personal milestone for the 25-year-old, but he also became the first-ever Wrexham player to represent an African nation at international level.

Both players will now be available for selection for this weekend’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Morecambe.
