INTERNATIONAL WATCH | James McClean set for Ireland farewell

Centurion set for final international appearance

21 November 2023

James McClean will make his final appearance for the Republic of Ireland tonight in a celebration friendly against New Zealand.

The match at the Aviva Stadium will mark his 103rd cap for his country, bringing to an end what has been a storied career at the highest level of the game.

McClean made his debut for his country in 2012, in a home fixture against the Czech Republic.

After impressing for his club, he was then called up to represent his nation at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.

Despite a disappointing campaign, he made one substitute appearance off the bench against the eventual tournament winners Spain.

The former Ireland Captain went on to have a successful 2016 tournament in France where they made the huge scalp of beating Italy on their way to the Round of 16.

Due to multiple injuries in the camp, McClean was brought into the squad for the previous qualifier against The Netherlands but did not feature.

You can watch the centurion’s final appearance for the Club live this evening on Viaplay Sports online from 19:45 GMT.
