Wrexham AFC started the EFL Trophy group stage with a win against a young Newcastle side, courtesy of a first-half goal.
A first EFL Trophy game for Wrexham AFC in 16 years saw them take their first win in the competition since beating Southend United at the Millennium Stadium in the 2005 Final. After shots from both Liam McAlinden and Billy Waters, it was third time lucky with Sam Dalby managing to slot it past the Newcastle defence.
Attempts continued in the second half from both sides, however, neither side managed to add to the scoreline.
