REPORT | Wrexham AFC Reserves vs Accrington Stanley Reserves

12 September 2023

Billy Waters scored what was to be only a consolation goal, as Accrington Stanley ran out victorious in this afternoon’s Central League fixture at the Wham Stadium.

The striker was able to create a chance out of nothing from a corner and fired past Jack McIntyre in the Stanley net to pull one back.

It was the hosts that took the lead before half-time, as Josh Woods capped off a smart team move, breaking through the resolute Wrexham defence.

They had opportunities to stretch the lead on several occasions, but Luke McNicholas stood firm to deny the Stanley attack.

However, three second-half goals inside the opening ten minutes proved decisive, as the hosts took full advantage of their lead.

Lewis Trickett bagged the second in the 48th minute, capitalising on a counter-attack from a Wrexham corner, and he doubled the advantage with a smart finish.

Two minutes later it was three, as Matt Lowe received a cross from the right-hand side, which he volleyed past McNicholas.

Lowe had a hand in the fourth, as he assisted Ben Woods in the 57th minute, rounding off an emphatic start to the second period.

Waters got his goal on the 71st minute, his first of the season, to provide a late consolation for David Jones' side.
