SIGNED | Ava Suckley and Carra Jones join Wrexham AFC Women ahead of season opener

Steve Dale adds to squad ahead of Swansea City match on Sunday

14 September 2023

Wrexham AFC Women are pleased to announce the signings of Ava Suckley and Carra Jones ahead of the Club’s opening Genero Adran Premier fixture against Swansea City on Sunday.

Ava, 19, re-joins the Club having previously signed in the summer of 2022, originally joining from Stoke City.

Following a successful stint in North Wales, she took time out of the game to move to Australia but now returns ready to make an impact with Steve Dale’s side this season.

Upon re-joining the Club, Ava said: "I'm really excited to be back again. I can't wait to get the season started and get back to it.

"I've missed out on a lot when I was away and I was ready to come back - everything is looking really good going forward and I'm looking forward to getting started."

Wrexham's manager was full of praise for the returning forward, and spoke about his joy at getting the deal sorted.

“I'm delighted to welcome Ava back to the Club again for the 2023/24 season,” Dale revealed. “Ava joined the club at the start of the 2022/23 season from Stoke City and instantly proved her quality and it didn't take long to make an impact in the first team squad.

“She brings a lot of attacking quality to the team and had a fantastic goal return last season before she took a short break out of the game.

“The minute we knew Ava was returning to the country we wanted to move quickly and get her back in the squad ready for the upcoming season. We look forward to seeing her develop and play a big part in our debut season in the Genero Adran Premier.”

Carra, 22, joins the Club from Stoke City, having previously played for Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool Feds.

After making the move to North Wales, Jones explained: "I'm really happy to be here. All I've ever heard is good things about the Club, and a lot of people mentioned that to me.

"Since walking through the door, I've absolutely loved my time here so far. There is only one way which this Club is going and it would be great to be a part of that."

Upon the addition of Jones to the squad, Dale revealed that the 22-year-old impressed on trial from the minute she arrived and that he was keen to get the deal sorted.

“Carra will be another fantastic addition to the squad for this season,” he explained.

“She was a player who was recommended to us by Stoke City after her departure from the club and after initially speaking to her previous manager I was keen to speak with Carra to get her on board.

“The moment that we saw her train and get minutes as a trialist we were keen to get her on board, she has a fantastic attitude and adds more quality to our attacking options.

“Given her age, she has had some fantastic experience with the clubs she has previously represented, and we’re delighted to have her on board at Wrexham and are excited to see Carra in a Wrexham shirt for our debut season in the top-flight of Welsh football.”
