Wrexham AFC Women are delighted to announce the appointment of Keren Allen as First-Team captain for the 2023/24 season.

Allen joined the club this summer, arriving from Stourbridge FC having gained experience at West Brom and Aston Villa previously.

The 26-year-old has impressed throughout pre-season both on the pitch and off the pitch, providing advice to the younger generation of Wrexham players alongside her playing duties.

Speaking about her appointment as First-Team Captain, Manager Steve Dale said: “She’s a positive figure within the group, gets around all of the girls and is going to be great and I’m sure it will be a proud moment for her.

“When I had the conversation, she was over the moon when I asked her, and we are really honoured to have her at the club.

“Keren has been really approachable and keen to ask questions as well to make sure that she understood what the staff were asking for. She’s been great with all the girls as well, so it was an easy decision to make.

“We can see that the experience she’s brought is paying off in training and games so far and she is going to become a big asset and a leader for us on and off the pitch as well as a really good role model for the girls.”

Allen was just the second new addition to join the Club in the summer, arriving after the addition of Hannah Keryakoplis in July.

When asked about what the news meant to her, the defender explained: “It is an honour for me and I’m really, really happy about it.

“I was quite shocked when I was told, as I’m quite new to the club, but I trust Steve and I trust the process. He saw something in me, and I get on with the girls really well, so it feels like the right fit.

“For me, I think everyone should be a leader on the pitch anyway, regardless of whether you are captain or not. We’ve all got a job to do, we are a team and a family at the end of day, so It’s really exciting to be given this honour.”
