END-OF-SEASON AWARDS | Paul Mullin and Rosie Hughes make it three in a row

Winners crowned after another memorable season

30 April 2024

Paul Mullin and Rosie Hughes each scooped a record-breaking third consecutive Player of the Season award for their respective teams, as Wrexham AFC celebrated the End of Season Awards at William Aston Hall.

Both the men's and women's first-team players and staff, as well as Academy and Club staff, were in attendance at William Aston Hall as 12 awards were handed out.

With season-ticket holders and members in the audience, and TNT Sports' Matt Smith as host, both Mullin and Hughes scooped two awards each.

Both already knew they would be taking home the Top Goalscorer awards, again for a third time in a row. Mullin then claimed Player of the Season for a third consecutive year - becoming the first men's player ever to win the award three times.

The striker has hit 26 goals in all competitions since returning from the punctured lung he suffered in pre-season, spearheading Wrexham's promotion charge in the final months - including claiming the Sky Bet EFL League Two Player of the Month award when he hit seven goals in six games.

Andy Cannon was voted second, while Elliot Lee finished third in the supporter vote.

Hughes likewise was named Player of the Season for a third time, after finishing as top scorer in Wrexham AFC Women's first season in the top flight. Hughes also scored the winning goal in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup Semi-Final, setting up Sunday's final showdown in Newport against Cardiff.

Lili Jones finished second in the supporter vote, and Amber Lightfoot was third.

Max Cleworth won the Young Player of the Season award for a second time, meanwhile, after making 31 appearances this season. He scored his first league goal, the winner against Colchester United, and became a regular in the Wrexham defence in the final half of the season.

Lili Jones claimed the women's award for the first time, after a season in which she has been ever-present in the side in the Genero Adran Premier - with highlights including the long-range goal she scored at the STōK Cae Ras against Swansea in March.

In the Players' Player of the Season voting, Elliot Lee was voted for by his team-mates. Lee hit 16 goals in 53 games, including late winners against Sutton United (twice) and Doncaster.

Phoebe Davies was named as Wrexham AFC Women's Players' Player of the Season, meanwhile - the versatile defender having played in a number of positions across the defence as the team finished third in the Genero Adran Premier and reached the Bute Energy Welsh Cup Final.

Audience members cast the final votes for the Steve Edwards Goal of the Season Award, sponsored by Ifor Williams Trailers, from the final four of Cannon's goals against Grimsby Town and Stockport, Ryan Barnett's volley against Forest Green Rovers and Lee's winner at home to Sutton. Barnett was crowned winner on the night.

The Wrexham AFC Community Player of the Season award was won by Erin Lovett, having been heavily involved in community engagement this season. The Service and Support Award was given to long-serving staff member Mike Matthews, meanwhile.

The Bob Clark Academy Player of the Season Award, was won by Harry Ashfield. As well as making his first-team debut this season, Ashfield is the Academy team's top goalscorer - firing the team to the top of the EFL Youth Alliance North-West table with one game of the season remaining.

The evening ended with the Wrexham AFC men's first-team players invited back to the stage to be handed their medals after finishing second in Sky Bet League Two and winning promotion at the first time of asking - Luke Young and Ben Tozer lifting the trophy.
