Elliot Lee expressed his joy at securing back-to-back promotions, as the Red Dragons ended their 19-year wait to return to Sky Bet League One.

The creative midfielder kick-started what was set to be a historic day at the STōK Cae Ras after he opened the scoring in our 6-0 rout against Forest Green Rovers.

That made it goal number sixteen of the season for Lee, who was named in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Year at the EFL Awards on Sunday.

Having played an integral role to the success of the past two seasons, Lee smiled from ear to ear when discussing the squad’s achievements.

“It’s incredible, it’s why I joined the Club in the first place,” he explained.

“I did an interview when I first signed where I said if I can be in League One at the end of my initial contract then I would be more than happy.

“It is an incredible feeling to know all of our hard work across the last two years has paid off. It's what we’ve all wanted, we knew we could do it and it’s why I joined this special club.”

It has been another remarkable and hard-fought campaign where the Red Dragons quality has shone through when it’s mattered most.

At midnight on New Year’s Day, it was announced that both Lee and Paul Mullin would be extending their stay at the STōK Cae Ras until 2027.

It was a move that committed his future to the Club, which excited supporters due to his contribution since arriving in North Wales.

In what has been a historic two-year period, the 29-year-old midfielder added that it has given him memories to last a lifetime.

“The joy of everyone around Wrexham and our supporters right around the world is an incredible feeling and one that you would bottle up if you could,” he said.

“We want to just enjoy this moment because it is what we have all worked so hard for.

“These are the moments that when you grow up you want to be involved in as a footballer. Without the pressure and the nerves, you don’t get feelings like today [speaking after full-time].

“The joy of everyone around Wrexham and our supporters right around the world is an incredible feeling and one that you would bottle up if you could,” he said.

The pressure of a promotion race is something that the squad are more than accustomed too, after earning back-to-back promotions for the first time in our 159-year history.

In the National League, Phil Parkinson’s side finished on a record breaking 111 points and followed up that success by achieving automatic promotion to Sky Bet League One.

Throughout both seasons, they have enjoyed success in Emirates FA Cup campaigns, including victories against Coventry City and Shrewsbury Town.

To achieve such success is not only a testament to their performances, but also the unity in the dressing room, which Lee believes has been crucial.

He said: “I can’t speak highly enough of the group and credit to the Owners, the Manager and the staff because they bring in great characters. They bring in hard working, honest lads who are very talented.

“I’ve said it before it is the best dressing room, I have ever been a part of and that is why we handle moments like we did today [speaking on Saturday].

“We all felt strong going into these games where the pressure is high because we dealt with it all last year.

“That experience from last year really helped the group this year and it’s a pleasure to come into work every day.

“These are the moments that you want to saviour and enjoy with people that you experience those highs and lows with.

“It’s a special feeling to have.”
