Phil Parkinson’s first Wrexham signing leaves the STōK Cae Ras

1 February 2024

Wrexham AFC can confirm that utility player Liam McAlinden has left the Club by mutual consent with immediate effect.

The 30-year-old joined Wrexham in July 2021 as Parkinson’s first signing, having helped Morecambe to promotion in the previous season.

Following his arrival at the STōK Cae Ras he contributed both on and off the pitch, while making a number of important appearances during the record-breaking, title-winning 2022/23 season.

He will long be remembered by Wrexham fans for his tackle which started the move that led to Paul Mullin’s wondergoal against Stockport County in the FA Trophy, which secured a trip to Wembley for the Red Dragons.

McAlinden made 64 appearances in total during his time in North Wales, scoring once, including six appearances this season for the Red Dragons.

Manager Phil Parkinson said: “I’d like to wish Liam all the best, he has been a great person to have around the squad over the last couple of years and has made a real contribution both on and off the field - we wish him all the best for the future.”

Everybody at Wrexham AFC would like place on record our thanks to him for his efforts while at the Football Club, and we wish Liam all the best in his future endeavours. He will always be welcome at the Club.
