Well, here we all are again. Another year has passed since Rob and Ryan took the helm of the good ship Wrexham AFC and I think it’s fair to say it’s been a pretty good one.
Escaping the clutches of the National League with a record points total. Breaking attendance records that have stood since before I was born – the significance of this more keenly felt by those who have met me and realise quite how badly I am losing my battle with middle age. Returning to the League and challenging for a title. A first tour of America. An International Centurion. An International Debutant.
A newly Semi-Professional Women’s Team. A newly Semi-Professional Women’s Team who have won a promotion and are now holding their own in Wales’ top flight. A new temporary stand. The Kings of Leon. A second season of the documentary. Commercial partnerships unprecedented in League 2. Wrexham kits being sold and dispatched to America, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Germany and beyond. The Bus tour. Ben Foster’s penalty save. Sam Dalby’s winner away at Aldershot. Paul Mullin’s brace against Boreham Wood. Fordey against Yeovil. Elliot Lee, time and time again. Shrewsbury Away. Evans, Okonkwo, McClean, Boyle, Fletcher, Marriott, Bolton. Games against storied teams and old rivals. Late equalisers, late winners. Lifting the trophy at home.
So, we stand on the precipice of another year. Can it deliver as much excitement and joy and wonder as the last year did? Well, we’ll be doing everything we can to deliver those things. Phil and his staff will be doing everything they can on the training pitch, the players will be doing everything they can, when they cross the white line and all we can ask of you, the fans, is to give your everything from the stands. If we all give everything, then I think there may be another great year on the cards.
