Red Dragons start 2024 with a bang

2 January 2024

Wrexham AFC enjoyed New Year's Day delight, coming from behind to beat Barrow AFC with four goals to secure three points on the first day of 2024.

The day actually started badly - Barrow scoring within the first minute of play - leaving Wrexham trailing just seconds into their first match of the calendar year.

It wasn’t until added time in the first half when the Red Dragons struck with a triple before the end of the half. Steven Fletcher opening Wrexham’s scoring, assisted by Paul Mullin - Mullin who has recently signed to stay with the club until 2027. Just two minutes later, Mullin himself got a goal when he found the back of the net from a free kick. To add to the pandemonium at the packed STōK Cae Ras, Fletcher scored in the 13th minute of added time, wrapping up three goals in a manic five-minute period.

After the break, Phil Parkinson’s side continued their charge; Fletcher sealing a first Wrexham hat-trick and a fourth of his career to add to Barrow’s disappointing afternoon. Despite further chances, Wrexham had to settle for four goals on the first day of 2024.
