Jacob Mendy has joined up with the Gambia National Team for a pre-Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) training camp in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Mendy, 27, has been selected by Scorpions boss Thomas Saintfiet to be a part of the training camp which will prepare the 2021 quarter-finalists for the upcoming tournament.
They will be based in the city of Al-Ahsa until January 8, when they will travel back to the Gambia before heading out for the tournament.
The Gambia have been drawn in Group C and will start their campaign on Monday January 15 against the current holders Senegal.
From there, they will face Cameroon and Guinea in the host nation of Cote d'Ivoire before the group stage ends.
As a result of his selection for the technical training camp, Jacob will be unavailable for this weekend’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie against Shrewsbury Town.
The Gambia’s final squad for AFCON will be announced on January 9.
