Mendy could become first-ever Wrexham AFC player to appear at AFCON tomorrow

Jacob Mendy could feature for The Gambia tomorrow evening when they take on Guinea in their second group game of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He remained an unused substitute in the Scorpions opener against tournament holders Senegal on Monday, after falling to a 3-0 defeat.

Should the 27-year-old defender make an appearance on Friday night, he would become the first ever Wrexham AFC player to be represented at AFCON.

Not only that, but he would be the second player in the Club’s history to feature at a major tournament as Dennis Lawrence featured for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 World Cup.

Tomorrow night’s opposition for Thomas Sainfiet’s side kickstarted their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Cameroon.

After only one fixture in the group stage has been played, there is plenty of opportunities for the Scorpions to progress in the tournament.

The fixture at the Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro, will be broadcast on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK from 20:00 GMT.
