Wrexham AFC’s Under-18 side went on to produce an impressive comeback victory away from home to continue their strong form in the EFL Youth Alliance.
The young Red Dragons found themselves fourth in the league table behind leaders Preston North End – but held three games in hand on their rivals.
Things didn’t get off to the best start, as the Valiants broke the deadlock and took the lead within ten minutes in Stoke-on-Trent.
However, Wrexham showed their fighting spirit and character to regain control of the match, with goals from Rio Owen, Dan Davies and Callum Edwards securing an impressive win, kicking off 2024 in the best possible way.
Speaking on the side’s victory, Lead PDP Coach Nick Chadwick said: “The performance is always more important for us than the result. I was pleased with the performance of the players and their physical output considering the time that they had over Christmas.
“Following the first ten minutes when they found themselves 1-0 down, the character, fitness levels and intensity was there in abundance, which is really great to see.
“The performance levels and intensity of the players has been quite consistent throughout the season, but during the break we gave the players programmes during Christmas, so it is testament to Luke (Wakeling) and the S&C department that they came back fit and well.
“We always reiterate that if the performance, discipline, and behaviour of the players is good then the result will normally be positive – it was a pleasing day.”
