Genero Adran Premier phase two begins with a defeat in South Wales

12 March 2024

Wrexham AFC Women suffered a narrow defeat away to Swansea City as they kicked off their Genero Adran Premier Phase Two campaign in South Wales.

A fast starting first-half saw two goals in ten minutes - the Swans opened the scoring in the ninth minute of play, quickly followed, just one minute later, by Amber Lightfoot leveling the scoreline from a Rosie Hughes cross.

Swansea hit back just before half-time, however, through Katy Hosford, and she doubled her tally in the 65th minute to really test the resolve of the visiting Wrexham side.

Ava Suckley and Annie Small were introduced from the bench as the Red Dragons looked for a response, and hopes of a comeback were strengthened when Carra Jones pulled a goal back in the dying seconds. Wrexham pushed until the final whistle but, unfortunately, could not find the elusive equaliser.

The two teams will now meet again in two weeks time, this time at the STōK Cae Ras - tickets are on sale now via the Wrexham AFC eTicketing website.
