INTERVIEW | Co-Chairman Rob McElhenney after Accrington Stanley win

Co-Chairman shares his thoughts after 4-0 victory at STōK Cae Ras

Co-Chairman Rob McElhenney jumped into Paul Mullin’s post-match interview with the written press and media, as Wrexham AFC claimed a 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at the STōK Cae Ras.

Speaking about Mullin, the Red Dragons’ hat-trick hero, McElhenney said: “The question I get more than anything is are the guys like that in real life?

“Paul is exactly like this all the time, and every once in a while, I want to get him to tell me how great he is and it is always the same answer every week - ‘I just put in a shift, I do my work and then I go back home to my family’.”

Having been able to witness Wrexham’s second biggest league win of the season, McElhenney admitted: “It was an incredibly fortunate week to pick, but I have nothing to do with what goes on out there - these players are special.

“What a beautiful sport, when you put in the work like Paul does, good things happen.

“The man you see in the documentary is the man who he is - he has inspired millions of people all over the world for so many different reasons. I’m so proud that he is a part of this organization - and not just because he scores a hat-trick every once in a while!”

Reflecting on the final run-in of league matches as the Red Dragons fight for promotion, he said: “It’s an exciting final two months of the season. I’m going to be back very soon because many of those games will be very important games.”

Wrexham’s co-chairman also got to see the Fourth Wall Temporary Kop in action, and added: “I love the new Kop - I’ve asked the players for their thoughts on it and if they are enjoying it because to me it adds so much more vibrancy in action.

“The most important thing is to make sure that another 2300 people can get tickets, as it is getting harder and harder to get tickets.

“The bigger plan, as everyone knows, is to build a bigger stand and eventually another bigger stand so that everybody in Wrexham can be accommodated. The more games that this man (Mullin) plays for this Club, the bigger this Club is going to continue to get.”
