INTERVIEW | Steve Dale ahead of Bute Energy Welsh Cup semi-final

Manager speaks ahead of derby clash against TNS

3 March 2024

Prior to his side’s Bute Energy Welsh Cup semi-final, Steve Dale admitted the importance of being focused on the task at hand against The New Saints.

Today’s match will take place at the Essity Stadium, as Wrexham face rivals TNS for the third and final time this season, with Greg Draper’s side slipping into the bottom four on the final day of Phase One.

However, the most recent fixture was one that proved just how much of a test today’s opponents are, with Wrexham having to fight back from a 2-0 deficit to claim a 3-2 victory at Park Hall.

Speaking about the fixture, Dale said:” I’m really looking forward to the game - it seems it has been a long wait since the first phase of fixtures, but we needed a nice week off to regroup and recharge.

“We obviously had a friendly last weekend which has set us up nicely for the next set of matches - we’re really looking forward to it.

“It’s going to be a tough game and I think it’s a semi final where both teams are there on merit - there is the concern it might be cagey with a few nerves, but we want to build on the momentum we created in Phase One.

Wrexham’s manager emphasised the importance of not getting carried away with the prospect of silverware, with stern opposition in the way of them and a first major final.

He said: “We’re in a great opportunity to get into a final - we haven’t been at this stage as a Club so it could be a great opportunity to get some silverware.

“However, we have to put our full attention into the game that is coming up. If you look back at our match against TNS recently in the league, we didn’t get off to a good start, they were on top and could've put the game out of sight after half an hour.

“Credit must go to the girls, we battled through and turned the game around and won the game. They will be coming into the game with a lot to prove.

“It’s a derby and they will want to put their stamp on things - it’s important that we are fully aware of the challenge which is going to be ahead for us.”
