TST 2024 | Wrexham Red Dragons Announce Entry in Men’s and Women’s Brackets

Wrexham to be represented in men's and women's winner-takes-all $1 million seven-a-side tournament in Cary, North Carolina

The Soccer Tournament (TST), the 7v7 event with a $1 million winner-take-all prize being played in Cary, NC from June 5-10 today announced the entry of two Wrexham Red Dragons teams into TST’s men’s and women’s brackets.

Wrexham Red Dragons' double inclusion means Wrexham AFC become the first professional club to be represented in both of TST’s events.

Wrexham AFC Director, Shaun Harvey, said: “We look forward to returning to The Soccer Tournament for a second year.

“Last year’s tournament saw the Club make its US debut, and it was a great experience to welcome supporters to watch the Wrexham Red Dragons – as well as seeing the team create memorable moments on the pitch, such as our ‘Target Score Time’ win in our opening game against Como 1907.

“We’re pleased to have the opportunity to now bring Wrexham AFC Women to The Soccer Tournament too, for their US debut, and we look forward to seeing both teams out on the pitch in June.”

"Wrexham's involvement in 2023 helped put TST on the map and resulted in our event selling out," said TST founder and CEO Jon Mugar. "They are undoubtedly America's team and understand the spirit of our festival as well as anyone."

On the men’s side, the Red Dragons return to TST after a run to the round of 16 in the inaugural event. Wrexham’s entry last year included a mix of first-teamers, legends, and friends of the club, including goalkeeper Mark Howard, current Wrexham first-team coach David Jones, and former star striker Lee Trundle, among others.

Jones will return to TST to manage the Wrexham Red Dragons in 2024. The Red Dragons’ roster will once again include club legends as well as some first-team players and guests.

Wrexham AFC Women, meanwhile, make their debut at the tournament as part of the new-for-2024 women’s bracket. The team will include stars of the Genero Adran Premier team, as featured in Welcome to Wrexham alongside guest players.

Full player announcements for the 2024 Wrexham Red Dragons’ men’s and women’s teams will be made at a later date.

The Wrexham Red Dragons join Hashtag United, Serie B’s Como 1907, and Luis Nani’s Nani FC among the team’s announced in TST’s men’s field.

On the women’s side, they join Heather O’Reilly’s U.S. Women, the NWSL’s North Carolina Courage, and SoccerHead FC.

TST will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina from June 5-10. The 48-team men’s field will commence with group play on June 5-6, with teams being split into 12 groups of four. Thirty-two teams will emerge from the group stage to the knockout rounds, beginning on June 7. TST’s round of 16 and quarterfinals will take place on June 8, and the two semifinal matches will be played June 9.

TST’s inaugural women’s bracket will feature eight teams competing for an equal $1M, winner-take-all prize. The field will feature Heather O’Reilly’s team US Women, as well as additional clubs to be named later. The women’s event will begin June 7, and be broken into two groups of four. Two teams will advance from each group to play in the semifinals on June 9.

Both the men’s and women’s events will conclude in a winner-take-all championship doubleheader on June 10, with a total of $2M in prize money being awarded.
