INTERVIEW | Harry Ashfield ahead of Stockport County

Bob Clark Academy Player of the Season speaks ahead 2023/24 finale

4 May 2024

Harry Ashfield emphasised just how much victory over Stockport County would mean to Wrexham's Under-18 side, with the EFL Youth Alliance North-West title on the line.

The side hit the road for one final time this season, playing County in a 10:30am kick-off, knowing that a win or a draw would secure the title for Wrexham.

Ashfield picked up the 2023/24 Bob Clark Academy Player of the Season at the Club’s Awards Evening, after putting in a number of impressive displays and captaining the side several times this season.

Speaking about receiving the accolade, he said: “It means everything, my mum and dad were there, so It was a very proud moment for me and my family to go and pick up the Bob Clark Academy Player of the Season award gives me recognition for my season.”

Victory would mark a landmark moment for the Club, as it would secure the EFL Youth Alliance North-West title following a series of remarkable performances in the past few months.

“It means everything to do it for my Club,” He explained.  “We have the right staff and have been working hard in training, we’ll be fully prepared going into the game.

“Nick (Chadwick) has said to us this week, don’t worry about the result, worry about the performance and then the result will follow.

“The performance is the main thing for us. All year I’ve been trying to push the lads for getting our standards right, that will remain the same in the same in the game and hopefully we can close the season on top.”

Full focus within the group is on putting in a performance to the standards that have been set this season, but Ashfield explained just how much it would mean to lift a trophy for his hometown Club.

Ashfield said: “It would be top. Winning trophies for this Club mean everything, especially because I’m from here – when I was younger if I thought about winning a trophy, it would mean everything as it’s the dream. It’s going to be a big game.

"The lads were joking about me having Elliot Lee as my lockscreen on my phone when I was younger, but now being in and around them occasionally it’s crazy to think. To be around my heroes growing up, it is fantastic.

“The group are massively determined, to win the league would mean everything to everyone in the squad. The staff have been absolutely unbelievable this year, we really appreciate their efforts and everything that they have done for us this season.”
