TST 2024 | Final Wrexham AFC squad confirmed

Four guest players to complete squad

16 May 2024

Four more guest players have been confirmed for the Wrexham Red Dragons’ men’s squad for TST 2024, to complete this year’s line-up for the $1million winner-takes-all 7-a-side tournament in North Carolina.

Former Premier League players Maynor Figueroa, Bradley Johnson and Elliott Bennett will all turn out for the Red Dragons, alongside Giles Coke – a promotion winner with Sheffield Wednesday and Grimsby Town during his playing career.

Figueroa will play alongside fellow former Honduran international Roger Espinoza, who has already been confirmed.

Johnson, meanwhile, has spent the past season as a player-coach at Derby County’s Under-21 team after a career which saw him play more than 600 games. London-born but of American heritage, Johnson played in the top flight with Norwich City and also enjoyed lengthy spells with Leeds United and Derby.

Bennett appeared against Wrexham this season, as part of his final season with cross-border rivals Shrewsbury Town. Also a Premier League player with Norwich, Bennett won promotions with the Canaries, Brighton and Blackburn in his lengthy playing career.

Finally, Coke – who is currently a PDP coach at Sheffield Wednesday – counts the Owls, Bolton and Ipswich among his former teams.

The quartet complete Wrexham Red Dragons’ squad for the tournament, which includes a blend of youth and experience.

First-team coach David Jones will be player-manager, while Mark Howard returns to the tournament in goal. Last year’s Wrexham Red Dragons top scorer Dan Jarvis, and guest star George Boyd, who scored Wrexham’s winning goal in the thrilling comeback win against Como 1907, will also pull on a red shirt once again.

Jake Bickerstaff, Aaron James, Academy Player of the Season Harry Ashfield, Callum Edwards and young goalkeeper Liam Hall are all included from the current Wrexham squad, meanwhile.

Young defender Scott Butler has withdrawn from the squad, however, as he uses the time to explore his playing options for the 2024/25 season.

Figueroa, Johnson, Bennett and Coke join the cohort of guest players, meanwhile, which also features Boyd, Espinoza and Gary Hooper.
