Words from the National League:
It’s been a superb start for Wrexham this season. At the end of the opening month of the campaign, the side were second in the league with only one defeat to their name.
Akil Wright has played every minute of the Red Dragons’ season so far and although someone who isn’t too accustomed to the headlines, he’s proving to be a crucial cog in the midfield for Sam Ricketts’ men if they are to have a successful campaign.
Ruled out with injury in his first spell with the club, he’s back permanently in Wales and is already a fan favourite at the Racecourse Ground due to his hard-working attitude.
After rounding off August with a man-of-the-match performance against Bromley, the 22-year-old is more than deserving of the award.
Words from Wrexham AFC:
The players, staff, volunteers and supporters of Wrexham AFC would like to congratulate Akil on the award of Vanarama National League Player of the Month for August 2018. We are extremely proud of you!
We spoke to manager Sam Ricketts who said: "This is fantastic for Akil. He's been excellent for us so far this season. He is a young, honest and hard working player who is constantly looking to improve his game.
"Maybe much of the work he does for the team goes under the radar. Maybe the flair players like the goalscorers or someone getting more assists will grab all of the immediate plaudits so it's excellent that Akil has been given this recognition. The work he does in the middle for us is vital.
"Well done Akil. Keep it up!"
