Wrexham AFC captain Shaun Pearson and manager Dean Keates helped spread some Christmas cheer on the children’s ward of the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Pearson and Keates led a group of first-team players in visiting young patients on the ward on Wednesday (December 18), distributing presents and spending time with some of the youngsters.
Organised in conjunction with the players, Wrexham AFC Media Team and WST Community Group, the players made the trip after first-team training on Wednesday.
Presents were donated by the Junior Dragons, following their Christmas Party, as well as the WST Community Group, led by Steve Lloyd.
Pearson and team-mates James Jennings, Paul Rutherford, Akil Wright, JJ Hooper, Jazzi Barnum-Bobb, Ben Tollitt, Doug Tharme, Mark Harris and Dawid Szczepaniak visited the ward, along with Keates and first-team physio Phil Davies.
Wrexham Maleor Children’s Ward’s Amy Jones led the players around the ward, where they spoke with young patients and their families at their bedsides.
And Pearson said of the visit: “I think it’s important as a club that’s so involved in the community to give a little bit of our time back, and hopefully spread a little bit of festive cheer when they’re going through not such a nice time in their lives.
“You never want to see anybody poorly or struggling in life, but it’s one of the things where you never have to push any of the players to do it – they are always more than willing to come down and do their bit.”
Manager Keates added: “I’ve spoken before of how closely linked this club and the town is, and it’s good to be able to pay a visit and help, in however small a way, those children and families who might be going through a tough time.”
