2016-2017 (First Round)
After a very poor start to the 16-17 season Mills was relieved of his duties during October 2016 and replaced by former captain Dean Keates.
With league safety the paramount objective, Keates fielded rotated sides in the FA Trophy and FA Cup. Tranmere would be the avengers this time - making up for their heavy home defeat the previous season.

2017-18 (First Round)
A new look Wrexham side set out on another campaign under Keates but FA Trophy success was not achieved, as the Dragons were dumped out in the first round.
A Wrexham side that consisted mainly of reserve and fringe players were swept aside by Harrogate - with former striker Mark Beck inflicting the damage, a make-shift centre-half pairing of James Hurst and youngster Doug Tharme were unable to keep the tall striker quiet.

2018-19 (Second Round)
Under new manager Sam Ricketts, Wrexham looked to challenge for the play-offs once again, which they did, with the prospect of a fruitful FA Trophy campaign ahead of them.
After a good win against National League North side Boston in the first round, the second round draw wasn’t helpful - Leyton Orient were play-off rivals and eventual FA Trophy finalists, both sides rotated for the game, but Orient came out on top.
