Maidstone United 2-2 Wrexham
Our first ever visit to Maidstone in the Vanarama National League took place under former manager Gary Mills on the 3rd September 2016 and ended up in a draw.
21 minutes in John Rooney gave away a free-kick on the edge of the area for pushing Alex Flisher. Ben Greenhalgh stepped up and curled his free kick past Shwan Jalal in the Wrexham goal.
The Reds struck back in the 39th minute when Anthony Barry's long ball forward wasn't dealt with by the Maidstone defence. Callum Powell picked up the second ball and drove inside before unleashing a right footed shot into the net from just outside of the area.
It took until the 67th minute for Wrexham to take the lead with Powell netting again.
Paul Rutherford's cross from the right hand side dropped for Rooney who was under pressure and couldn't get his shot away. The loose ball fell for Powell who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Wrexham threw away the lead in the 77th minute when centre-halves Hamza Bencherif and Curtis Tilt became too close and didn't deal with a simple ball over the top.
Tilt attempted a backpass which was too weak for Jalal to recover. Sub Liam Enver-Marum pounced and slotted the ball home to draw things level.
