Bryan Hughes wants more of the same against Fleetwood Town in Wrexham’s second pre-season friendly of the summer.
The Dragons ran out 4-0 winners against Cefn Druids to end their first week back on the training pitch, and Hughes wants the attacking philosophy to be maintained.
Though a sterner test awaits from the Cod Army – who are expected to field their first team for the match at Poolfoot Farm – Hughes is keen to continue the expansive system used at The Rock.
“You can’t replicate what goes on in matches on the training ground so it’s important to get these pre-season games in,” he said.
“Saturday’s game was a good test for us, we definitely got the work into the players. I was trying to be quite expansive with my full-backs, to get them high and wide and pushed on as much as we can and we did.
“It will be the same again at Fleetwood. Potentially some players might play a little bit longer and just keep building those foundations to get those fitness levels up.
“We’re expecting Fleetwood to play their first team – they’ll have similar things to ourselves with regard trialists but we’re expecting it to be the majority of their first team and it will be a really competitive game.”
Hughes also confirmed trialist Jazzi Barnum-Bobb will remain with the club this week after catching the eye in the match against Cefn Druids.
The wing-back will play in the match against Fleetwood as Hughes continues to finalise the final few places in his 2019-20 first-team squad.
“Jazzi is back in this week. He’s impressed me this week in training and I thought he did well in the game as well, he was good defensively as well as attacking and got forward every opportunity he could.
“He’ll be back with us this week and will play some part again against Fleetwood and we’ll go from there.”
The match against Fleetwood takes place at Poolfoot Farm, which has a capacity of 1,000. Tickets for the game can be purchased in advance – click here for more details.
