Olly Marx at Southport: After a recent run of bad results Southport made the trip to Darlington on Tuesday evening for their last game on the road during the 2017-18 Vanarama National League North campaign.

Olly made yet another start in the heart of the Port defence and completed the full 90 minutes at Blackwell Meadows.

Chester FC loanee Ross Hannah's 34th minute goal cancelled out Darlington's opener which was scored by Josh Gillies in the 18th minute.

After half time the game opened up and four more goals followed. Dion Charles made it 1-2 giving Southport the advantage for the first time during the match in the 63rd minute before he made it 1-3 in the 79th.

Clive Smith made it 1-4 for Port in the 86th minute putting the game totally out of reach for Darlo. Harvey Saunders did pull one back for the hosts moments later to make it interesting but any fight back was solidly defended by Olly and his team mates.

With this win, the Sandgrounders moved up to 15th position and could end the season in 14th if they win their final game and AFC Telford United loose at 11th placed side Boston United.

However, if other results go against Kevin Davies' men they could end up as low as 19th but with  North Ferriby United (22nd), Tamworth (21st) and Gainsborough Trinity (20th) already relegated, Port are safe from the drop.

The last game for Olly during this loan spell will be on Saturday away at Spennymoor Town who sit in 8th position. Spennymoor need to win the match to get in to the play-offs, however their form in the last five is poor having Lost 4 and drawn 1. Spennymoor also need Bradford PA to loose against 4th placed side Kidderminster, Bradford in are hot form with 1 loss and 4 wins in their last 5 while Kidderminster last lost 7 matches ago.

So it's a big match for Olly and we all wish him the best of luck for Saturday as he turns out for Southport one last time before returning home to the Racecourse.
