Airbus UK Broughton v Wrexham
Date: 07/07/2018
Kick-Off: 12:00
Location: The Airfield
Competition: Pre-Season Friendly
After our pre-season curtain-raiser last week Wrexham return to action for our second friendly of the summer and final before heading out to Portugal.
Wrexham come into the game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Lex XI on a baking hot Friday evening. Goals from Chris Holroyd and Michael Elstone rounded off a match that saw two seperate elevens play for the Dragons. It was Sam Ricketts' first time on the touchline as Wrexham boss and he'll be looking to continue his sides progression on Saturday.
Airbus have also opened up their pre-season campaign as they ready themselves for the Cymru Alliance once again next term. They faced Runcorn Town at the Airfield last Saturday running out 4-3 victors as the red arrows took off just yards away from the action on Armed Forces Day. Goals from Asa Hamilton, James Hooper, Nathan Quirk and a trialist wrapped things up.
Wrexham fans will have the oppurtunity to see Sam Ricketts' latest signings in action this weekend having signed Mike Fondop-Talom and Luke Summerfield earlier this week. Powerful 6ft3 striker Talom has been brought in from Guiseley and will now be looking to continue his career going full time after his studies at University. Summerfield arrives from Grimsby having played the majority of his career in the EFL, and has a wealth of experience to bring Wrexham in the middle of the park.
Airbus have had numerous former Wrexham players in their squad over the years and one in particular still plying his trade in Flintshire is Steve Tomassen. The 25-year old made his Dragons league debut in 2011 against Luton Town and remained in and around the first team for five years playing at Wembley for the reds in the 2015 FA Trophy Final. He would go on to Tamworth before a second spell at Airbus - having spent time on loan from Wrexham in 2012/13 - and has remained since January 2017.
We last met July 2013 as the Dragons travelled to Broughton, as the Wingmakers - then in the Welsh Premier League - secured a 1-0 victory in front of 405 supporters. Other pre-season matches against Airbus came in the form of a 2-2 draw in August 2010, a 2-3 Wrexham win in a mid-season friendly in January 2009 and numerous reserve Wrexham teams facing the Flintshire side.
We have met in once in competitive football and it proved to be a historic occasion. Wrexham - 23-time record Welsh Cup winners - played our final match in the competition in December 2011 as Airbus snuck a 2-1 win after extra-time at the Racecourse Ground. The likes of Danny Ward, Rob Evans and current Wingmakers defender Tomassen all made their senior debuts.
Sam Ricketts will have a full squad to choose from.
