Wrexham manager Graham Barrow takes his first game as permenent boss this weekend when he brings his side to Hampshire on Saturday to face Aldershot Town.
Wrexham come into the game on the back of a solid 3-0 win over Boston United in the Buildbase FA Trophy. Chris Holroyd was on the scoresheet within two minutes at the Racecourse before that lead was doubled by Mike Fondop on nine minutes. The first half onslaught was complete on the half-hour mark as Paul Rutherford's impressive run down the middle ended with a tidy finish to seal the tie. It was a great way to bounce back from a dissapointing Emirates FA Cup exit to the hands of Newport County. Our last league outing came at home to Eastleigh where goals from James Jennings and Bobby Grant either side of half-time wrapped up three points for the Dragons.
As for Aldershot it's been difficult times for the Hampshire outfit with just ten senior players available to feature. A young Shots side faced Bedford Town in the FA Trophy First Round Replay on Tuesday night where the eighth tier side stunned the young Shots in a 7-0 thrashing. Three up at half-time, Bedford went on to hit four second half goals to end the rout. Last time out in the league Aldershot travelled to Harrogate with the visitors taking the lead early on before a collapse in Yorkshire. Adam McDonnell gave the Shots the lead on 14 minutes before a Warren Burrell - a centre half - grabbed an astronishing hatrick. Jack Muldoon saw off the game in injury time to seal a 4-1 win for Harrogate.
Wrexham striker Mike Fondop will be pleased to be back amongst the goals having netted for the first time since August last Saturday. Fondop's sixth of the campaign in all competitions was a well taken effort to double the Dragons lead in the FA Trophy against Boston and will now look to continue scoring in the National League.
As for Aldershot, they have just ten senior players available for this weekend's game meaning a number of youth team players may have an oppurtunity to prove themselves in the National League. Although they may lack experience they will add an extra bit of energy and enthusiasm to the team, but things are far from ideal for the Shots.
We've met on a number of occasions since our first game in 1961, that first match ending in a 0-0 draw. More recently though our last game came at the Racecourse Ground where Scott Quigley's double wasn't enough to win in a 2-2 draw. Our last trip to the Recreation Ground ended in a 2-0 win for Aldershot with goals from Bernard Mensah and Shamir Fenelon.
Wrexham striker Rekeil Pyke remains sidelined through injury whilst Doug Tharme and Jordan Maguire-Drew could also miss out. Defender Manny Smith will be assessed before the weekend whilst Kevin Roberts could return after he was forced off against Eastleigh.
