Bangor City v Wrexham
Competition: Pre-Season Friendly
Days after jetting back from sunny Portugal the Dragons are straight back to work as we travel west to face Cymru Alliance new-boys Bangor City.
Wrexham come into the game five days after lining up against Portuguese third tier side Louletano DC at the Estadio Algarve. Wrexham began the game brightly and by half-time were 2-0 up with goals from Mike Fondop - his second goal in as many games - and Nicky Deverdics. However, a second half come back agsinst a Wrexham side with trailists included saw the home side peg the reds back and eventually secure a last minute equaliser. The game followed victories over Airbus UK Broughton and Lex XI.
Bangor City were last in action on Friday night as they travelled to Wrexham to take on Brickfield Rangers. The Citizens ended the game with a 3-1 victory at Clywedog Park with goals from Robbie Parry, Yalany Baio and Jacob Farleigh. Their victory over Brickfield made it back-to-back wins following a 2-0 triumph over Pwllheli four days before.
Wrexham striker Mike Fondop has began his career as a Dragons player perfectly by grabbing two goals in as many games. The Cameroonian forward got himself on the scoresheet against Airbus and Louletano as he steps up to fulfilling a full 90 minutes in pre-season. Midfielder Luke Summerfield made his first appearance in Portugal and linked well in the midfield with fellow new signing Luke Young and both will be looking to gel further with their new team-mates.
Bangor City have made a fair few signings over the summer after their removal from the Welsh Premier League. Yalany Baio has returned for a second spell after spending a year with Gibraltar United and scored on his return against Brickfield. The former Sporting Lisbon and Liverpool trainee has also spent time with Sparta Rotterdam where he scored one in nine appearances and has represented the Portuguese Under-18's. Also among Bangor's ranks are some former Wrexham forwards in George Harry and Marc Williams. Harry made five appearances scoring a penalty against Torquay United during the 2016/17 season. Williams played at the Racecourse for six years between 2005 and 2011 grabbing 17 goals in 86 appearances.
We last met Bangor at Nantporth during a pre-season friendly two years ago with that particular fixture ending in a 1-1 draw. It followed from the year before where the Dragons won 3-1 in Gwynedd. We've met on a number of occasions over the years in the Welsh Cup including the final in 1896, 1962 and 1978.
Christian Dibble and Shaun Pearson were both forced off with injury at the Estadio Algarve as a precaution whilst Kevin Roberts wasn't risked for the game but they should be fit to participate on Tuesday.
