After two months away from football it finally returns with the first of four weeks of pre-season friendlies, before all the madness of a National League season begins. For the supporters, it's the first opportunity to see new manager Sam Ricketts at work.
It's been a long time since we were in action where the last time Wrexham kicked a ball, coming way back in late April on the final day against AFC Fylde with the game ending goalless. The squad began pre-season training on Monday and will be relishing the opportunity after their time away to get back among the action.
The pre-season curtain raiser against Lex has been a staple part of the routine in recent years and a superb opportunity to build a connection between supporters and the players. It's also a chance for new players to get to know the community in which they represent, something new signing Luke Young will be able to do. Signed from Torquay United in May many fans will be keen to see their new man in action.
We last met 12-months ago at Stansty Park where the Dragons ran out 1-3 in front of over 1,000 supporters. Goals from Paul Rutherford, Niall Freeman and Leo Smith put to bed a routine win. A year before Wrexham wrapped up a convincing 1-7 win, the same scoreline as in 2015.
Manager Ricketts should have a full squad to choose from.
