Wrexham are back in the Emirates FA Cup First Round after a four year abscence from this stage and have earned the Sunday lunch time slot against Vanarama National League South side Weston-super-Mare.
Wrexham come into the game top of the Vanarama National League and without defeat in nine games in all competitions. We were last in action last weekend when we met Gateshead at the Racecourse Ground. A Mike Williamson own goal - although Paul Rutherford's hard work led to him claiming it - lit the touchpaper in the first half before Brad Walker doubled the lead after the break. A late Adam Amstrong goal pegged it back with 88 minutes on the clock but in stoppage time Rekeil Pyke netted to seal the win. It made it back to back wins at the Cae Ras within four days of eachother after Luke Young scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Hartlepool United. Last time away from home we faced Chesterfield with Walker's penalty cancelled out with seconds to spare by Jonathan Smith.
As for Weston, they currently sit bottom of the sixth tier but have finally won their first league game after their 14th attempt. Their 1-0 away win against fellow strugglers Hungerford Town was sealed by a Bradley Ash penalty to finally give them a much needed victory. This was followed by a vallient 3-3 draw with mid-table Dulwich Hamlet. 3-1 down with less than 10 minutes remaining they hit home a penalty and a late equaliser to take a point. On the road to the First Round Weston they beat Salisbury via a replay in the second qualifying round, Coggeshall in the third qualifying round and beat Bath City 1-0 to earn a first round tie.
Dragons midfielder Brad Walker has been amongst the goals recently grabbing two in his last three games. On-loan from League Two Crewe Alexandra he's put in some impressive performences in the middle of the park with his range of passing and accuracy whilst he showed his anticipation and aerial threat to score last weekend against Gateshead.
23-year old striker Jamie Lucas will be hoping to find the net this weekend after hitting a brace against Dulwich Hamlet in WSM's previous game. The six ft two forward began life with Bristol Rovers and turned out once in League Two for the Gas. He was loaned out to Weston before heading to Boreham Wood where he scored 10 goals in the National League so will know the standard expected of him against Wrexham.
This Sunday's tie will be the first time we've met. When it comes to the First Round of the competition, Wrexham's last game was in November 2014 where we beat Woking whilst Weston last reached it this stage also in November 2014, where they lost 4-1 to Doncaster Rovers.
Wrexham defender Manny Smith is making progress off the pitch but will not be available, Mark Carrington could feature this Sunday.
