Wrexham will be hoping to spread the Christmas cheer this Boxing Day with the first of a double header against title rivals Salford City.
The Dragons come into the game on the back of a goalless draw with Aldershot Town on Saturday. For all of Wrexham's possession they couldn't make a breakthrough with Shots 'keeper Will Mannion taking credit with a string of outstanding saves. The pick of the bunch was to deny Akil Wright who's header inside the box was stopped brilliantly to push Wrexham back. It followed an entertaining 3-0 win at the Cae Ras in the FA Trophy where Chris Holroyd, Mike Fondop and Paul Rutherford were all on the scoresheet to brush aside Boston United.
As for Salford, they come into the game on the back of two defeats on the bounce in the National League, but have made progress in the FA Trophy between those games. Last time out they fell to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Dagenham & Redbridge in a dissapointing afternoon having won a week previous in the Trophy, a 3-1 triumph over Gateshead. Their last away game came on December 8th where Chesterfield swept away the Ammies in a 2-0 win.
Wrexham could hand a debut to new signing Ben Tollitt on Boxing Day having joined on an initial short-term loan deal. The Liverpudlian has signed from Tranmere Rovers and has showcased his ability down either wing with pace and agility at Prenton Park. Having began life with Everton he moved on to Widnes in the lower reaches of non-league before he was snapped up by Portsmouth. Following his stint at Pompey he joined Rovers earning promotion from the National League last term.
As for Salford, striker Adam Rooney was signed from Aberdeen in the summer. The 30-year old has hit the ground running thus far bagging an impressive 19 goals this season, but has failed to find the net in the last two games. The experienced forward has turned out for the likes of Stoke City and Birmingham City during his career and scored 66 league goals during his four years in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen.
This will be the first meeting between Wrexham and Salford City in a competative fixture.
Wrexham defenders Kevin Roberts and Manny Smith could return on Boxing Day whilst Doug Tharme and Rekeil Pyke remain sidlined. Luke Young serves the last of a three game suspension this week.
