Wrexham return to league action this weekend as we play host to Sutton United at the Cae Ras in front of the BT Sport cameras.
Wrexham come into this one on the back of a penalty shoot-out victory over Scottish Championship side Ayr United. Bryan Hughes made ten changes to his previous starting XI, with no less than eight youth team players making up the squad. A stalemate first half led to Jake Bickerstaff scoring on his senior debut to give Wrexham the lead before Sam Roscoe levelled late on. Wrexham's Paul Rutherford, Bickerstaff, Jazzi Barnum-Bobb, Ben Tollitt and Adam Barton scored and with the standings at 5-5 it went to sudden death. Debutant Dawid Szczepaniak - making his senior debut in football - saved Ayr's sixth penalty before Jake Lawlor won it for the Dragons.
Sutton United are without a win in their last five matches in the National League having last time out drawn 1-1 with Notts County. With two victories so far this term, the Amber & Chocolate sit 16th after ten games. Saturday's draw with Notts came after initially leading through Harry Beautyman but they couldn't see it out for a good win in the second half, and they had to settle for just a point.
Wrexham forward Mark Harris will be relishing getting back into club football after two games with the Wales Under-21's. Harris has three goals so far for the Dragons and was unavailable in the last week after being called up for his country. Harris started two games at the Racecourse over the last weekend, beating Belgium on Friday evening before scoring in a 5-1 loss to Germany. With two standout performances and under the eye of boss Bryan Hughes he'll be looking to jump straight back into club football.
Sutton forward Beuatyman has been a real asset for his side so far this term with four goals in nine appearances in the National League. The former Braintree man hit the back of the net against Notts County on Saturday and bagged three goals in the opening two games of the new campaign. The 27-year old will be on the hunt for his tenth Sutton goal after signing for the side in January 2019 this weekend.
We've met with Sutton on a regular basis since their promotion to non-league's top tier in 2015, and will do battle this weekend for the eighth time. Our first meeting came back in 2013 as Wrexham triumphed 5-0 at Gander Green Lane in the FA Trophy. Our last meeting came at the Cae Ras in April 2019 with Kieran Kennedy's goal the difference in a 1-0 win for Wrexham. It's the reds who edge the head to head figures with three wins to Sutton's two with three games ending in a draw.
Mark Harris returns from international duty this Saturday whilst Manny Smith and Rob Lainton remain sidelined through injury. Jake Lawlor's suspension resumes after the Scottish Challenge Cup whilst JJ Hooper is not fit to feature.
