Wrexham Under 18's extended their unbeaten run on Saturday morning at Stansty Park with a 2-2 draw with EFL Youth Alliance champions Wigan Athletic.
Wigan had to come from behind twice against a rampant Wrexham side who would earn a point, thanks to two goals from Kyle Robinson-Murray.
Wrexham broke the deadlock on 15 minutes pouncing on an error at the back from the visitors with Robinson-Murray smashing a low drive past the reach of Sam Tickle in the Latics goal.
Wigan went on the front foot after the opening goal and came within inches of getting back level on 20 minutes. Monaghan’s free-kick was headed by Jolley at the back-post but his effort smashed off the bar.
Just before half-time Wigan's pressure paid off when Monaghan’s corner was cleared only as far as Roberts who's left-footed shot found the back of the net for the equaliser.
However, Wrexham restored the lead on the stroke of half-time when Cameron McGregor’s curling effort was saved by Tickle, but Robinson-Murray reacted first to tap home the rebound.
Wrexham played very well in the second-half, shutting down the Latics forwards and midfield as they searched for an equaliser.
The young Dragons almost doubled the lead on 68 minutes as Jack Thorn’s goal-bound effort was well blocked before Robinson-Murray picked out McGregor who put his effort narrowly over the bar.
Wigan made a double change late on and salvaged a point in the 84th minute. Matty Sargent was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the Wigan box and Victor Maffeo made no mistakes from 12 yards.
Wrexham did have one last chance to take all three points as substitute Pat Jones riggled through the Wigan defence, but the keeper made a point-blank save from his close range shot.
