Manager Dean Keates had a busy afternoon on Friday, as he searched through his contacts book looking for a late signing to cover for his goalkeepers, following a recurrence to Chris Dunn’s thigh injury.
With literally minutes remaining before the National League’s new 5.00pm registration deadline for weekend games, he was able to get signed paperwork across to the league offices.
International Clearance also came through in double quick time, to make the player eligible for this afternoon’s game.
So we are pleased to welcome Callum Preston to the club and hope he enjoys his stay with us.
The 21-year-old was most recently with Stevenage, acting as cover during last season and playing in the Checkatrade Trophy game for the Hertfordshire club.
Although born ins Stafford, he lives near Welshpool and has represented Wales at Under 19 level, playing against Montenegro in April 2014.
A youth player with TNS, Liverpool and Birmingham City, he turned professional with the Blues and enjoyed loan spells with Worcester City and AFC Telford United.
He left St Andrews in the summer of 2015 and signed for Crawley Town as their number two, playing 10 times during the following season.
Callum has signed non-contract in the short term, after spending time training with Rochdale this summer.
The boss was happy to welcome his latest addition to the Racecourse.
"With Chris going down again in training on Friday, we felt we had to move quickly to bring in cover," he said.
"It was a close call, but very happy thar Callum was able to make himself available and we look forward to working with him."
