Dover Athletic v Wrexham
Date : 12/08/2017
Location: The Crabble Ground
Competition: Vanarama National League
Following a successful trip to Maidenhead in midweek, Wrexham are back on the road to take on tricky opposition in Dover Athletic.
Wrexham come into the game on the back of a win and a loss so far this term. The Dragons turned around their fortunes on Tuesday following an opening day defeat to Macclesfield Town. At York Road Manny Smith opened the scoring before Dave Tarpey equalised just two minutes later. In the second half Smith popped up for his second, proving to be the winner, made better with it being the first brace of his career.
Dover Athletic, meanwhile, have had a mixed start to the season following a 1-2 home defeat to Bromley. Having begun the season with a win over relegated Hartlepool United, Dover couldn’t go on to build on their victory and will be disappointed not to have secured back-to-back wins so far.
Wrexham’s Jack Mackreth will be looking to continue to impress having done well when coming off the bench at Maidenhead. The winger signed from Bury in the summer is hoping to earn a place in the starting eleven in the coming weeks having picked up a knock in pre-season.
Dover’s Tobi Sho-Silva is one to watch having joined the Whites in the summer. Having impressed for Bromley last season scoring 11 National League goals. He has had spells with Inverness and Welling on loan having began life with Charlton. A dangerous attacking threat, Wrexham will be looking keep him quiet in front of goal.
Wrexham and Dover have met on six occasions, all coming in the last three years in the National League. Our last meeting came in February 2017 where we drew 1-1 at the Crabble. In those six matches Dover have won three whilst we’ve drawn three. The Dragons have yet to manage a victory over the Kent side.
Wrexham will be without Chris Holroyd who was forced off on the opening day of the season against Macclesfield.
