In-form Wrexham hosts high-flying Sutton United on Saturday in what could be a big three points in the National League promotion hunt.
Wrexham come into the game on the back of seven games without defeat and on a high following a battling win over Tranmere Rovers last weekend. The Dragons went down to ten men following Sam Wedgbury's second yellow card in the opening 14 minutes. However, ten-man Wrexham fought bravely and following a corner, Chris Holroyd smashed the ball into the Tranmere net and give Wrexham a very impressive three points. Before that Wrexham had drawn three games on the bounce against Guiseley, Hartlepool United and Torquay.
As for Sutton, they sit top of the National League following a 3-2 victory over Barrow last weekend. Goals from Kwame Thomas, Josh Taylor and Moses Emmanuel saw off a tough Bluebirds side. It was their second win in their last five matches and a great way to shake off their previous game where they fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Woking.
Wrexham striker Chris Holroyd will be on a high following his superb performance against Tranmere last time out. Having been switched positions around following Wedgbury's dismissal, Holroyd put a real shift in during an intense match that ended after 100 minutes of play. His first goal of the season will give him confidence, especially with it being the first he's put away for the club. It's continued a fine run of form for the attacker since returning from an injury picked up on the opening day of the campaign.
Sutton United's Moses Emmanuel finally notched his second goal of the season last time out against Barrow. He signed for the club in the summer moving from Dover Athletic and opened his account for United in August against Macclesfield Town. Now playing in the National League for the third season on the bounce after dropping down to the lower reaches of non-league. The scored 27 goals in a successful two-year stint with Bromley before adding 11 last season with Dover.
Wrexham and Sutton have met on three separate occasions in our history, the first coming in 2013. During Wrexham's successful FA Trophy campaign. We drew United and travelled to Gander Green Lane where the Dragons hammered the then-National League South side 0-5. Our first league meeting came at the Racecourse Ground as Sean Newton's goal sealed victory for the Reds, 1-0. The return fixture in the English capital finished by the same scoreline, only it was Sutton who went home happy as Martin Riley's own goal after four minutes decided the match.
Goalkeeper Chris Dunn has returned to training this week and could be available for selection, however, fellow shot-stopper Christian Dibble remains sidelined. Sam Wedgbury misses out as he begins his one-match ban following his Tranmere red card.
